Santuario a San Juan Bosco
En Orocovis, Puerto Rico
En el barrio El Gato del pueblo de Orocovis, en el mismo centro de la Isla, a la altura del kilómetro 34.2 de la carretera estatal #155, existía desde hacía más de 25 años, una humilde capilla católica, dedicada a San Judas Tadeo, perteneciente a la parroquia San Juan Bautista.
Dicha capilla fue demolida el año 2000, por hallarse en muy malas condiciones. El mismo año se prepararon los planos, diseñados por el Ingeniero Alfredo Luciano, para levantar un nuevo edificio, de forma exagonal, más de cinco mil pies cuadrados, con una bella línea arquitectónica, en una combinación de estilo clásico y moderno a la vez. Será inaugurado el 31 de Enero de 2004.
El edificio luce majestuoso en la cumbre de la montaña. Interiormente es también de una belleza extraordinaria. Ha sido decorado por el pintor Arturo Vonn Hartung, con un mural precioso en el fondo del presbiterio, alusivo a una visión de Don Bosco sobre la Iglesia, y una serie de vitrales artísticos con las 14 estaciones del Via Lucis, con estampas de la Resurrección de Cristo. Todo el conjunto, con los efectos de la buena iluminación, crea un ambiente ideal de armonía, de paz y oración.
El templo está dedicado a San Juan Bosco, Padre y Maestro de la juventud, Fundador de los Salesianos. Precisamente será inaugurado en el 2004, año del 25 aniversario de los Salesianos en Orocovis, como homenaje a su Padre y Fundador y estímulo para que sea cada vez más fieles a su carisma.
Serán muchos los peregrinos que acudirán a este lugar para admirar la belleza del edificio y sus alrededores y dar gracias a Dios por las bendiciones que desde allí derramará sobre todo Puerto Rico.

Sanctuary of Saint John
Bosco in Orocovis, Puerto Rico
In the “ El Gato “ district of the Town of Orocovis, at the very center of the
island, at the 34.2 kilometer mark on State Highway # 155, there was standing,
for more than 25 years, a humble Catholic chapel dedicated to Saint Jude
Thaddeus, belonging to the Saint John The Baptist parish.
This chapel was demolished in the year 2000, as it was found to be in very poor
condition. The same year plans were prepared, drawn by engineer Alfredo Luciano,
to erect a new edifice, hexagonal in form,of more than five thousand square
feet, with handsome architectural lines, a combination of classic and modern
styles in one. It will be inaugurated on January 31, 2004.
The building stands majestic upon the summit of the mountain. The interior is
also of extraordinary beauty. It has been decorated by painter Arturo Vonn
Hartung with a beautiful mural at the back of the presbytery, allusive of a
vision of Don Bosco about The Church ,and a series of artistic panes with the 14
Stations of The Cross with pictures of Christ’s Resurrection. The entire
collection, with the effects of good illumination, creates an ideal atmosphere
of harmony, peace, and prayer.
The church is dedicated to Saint John Bosco, priest and teacher to youth,founder
of the Salesians. It will be inaugurated in 2004, precisely on the 25th
anniversary of the Salesians in Orocovis, as a tribute to their head and
founder, and a stimulus that they may be ever more faithful to his charism.
There will be many pilgrims who will come to this place to admire the beauty of
the structure and its surroundings, and to give thanks to God for the blessings
which will pour forth from here over all of Puerto Rico.
